Since 1978 painter Rod Weagant has lived and worked in North Central
Washington. For eleven years he operated an art gallery in the beautiful
Lake Chelan Valley. In 1990 increasing demand for his paintings and
his strenghtening belief in the value of painting directly from nature necessitated
closing his gallery. He began to work out of his studio in Manson, Washington
which was located in an apple orchard. In the summer of 2000 Rod and
his family moved to Haines, Alaska to find new inspiration for his painting
in the natural beauty of Southeast Alaska. He is doing the things that,
for him, make painting most enjoyable, standing before the natural world
and attempting to record it faithfully and simply, without pretense.
